The Shalimar Pointe Owners' Association, as we know it today, resulted from a meeting of approximately 50 concerned residents in the Fall of 1993. At that time, our neighborhood was taking on an unkempt appearance, repairs were not being performed, the guardhouse had been wrecked, the security service had been canceled and, in general, there was an uneasiness among the members. Additionally, the firm that was responsible for property management was sold to an out-of-state company.
In October 1993, the Annual General Meeting was canceled. At that point, the same group of residents formed a nominating committee, and a slate of candidates was nominated for a one year term effective January 1994. Subsequently, in December 1993, Edwin Watts, Edwin Ell III, Robert L Brown, Jr., William Gann and David G. Baker were elected to the Board of Directors.
On December 31, 1993, the Shalimar Land Corporation relinquished control over the appointment of the Board of Directors and deeded to the Association the remaining roads and grounds previously held by the Corporation.
The year 1994 was pivotal for the Association. Because the Association's files, books and records were a shambles, the Board proceeded to develop and implement a database management system lo track and manage the 191 parcels within the subdivision. An automated accounting system was put in place to manage and account for the Association's funds and financial assets. A dues amnesty program was implemented to encourage members to bring their accounts up to date without being charged late fees. The guardhouse was rebuilt, the entranceway was landscaped and a close working arrangement with the Shalimar Pointe Golf and Country Club was forged.
Along with these improvements, a landscaping committee was organized, and a landscaping plan developed. Security services were put back in place. An Architectural Standards Committee, consisting of residents of the community, was reestablished. By the end of 1994, the Association consisted of 190 members and the Country Club.
At the 1994 Annual General Membership meeting, Mr.’s. Baker, Brown, Ell and Watts were reelected for staggered terms, and Ms. Kristen Boe was elected. Subsequent directors are listed on the “Board of Directors” page. By now, we had over 125 residents in six residential areas within the Shalimar Pointe community. The community consists of Shalimar Pointe, Lakeside at Shalimar Pointe, the Bluffs at Shalimar Pointe, the Links at Shalimar Pointe, Shalimar Pointe Phase 1. Palmetto Dunes, and two unplatted parcels.
During 1995 and 1996, the neighborhood continued to build out as more families discovered the beauty and tranquility of Shalimar Pointe. Three hurricanes, Alberto, Erin and Opal, slowed the landscaping and beautification efforts, but attempts at restoration and recovery soon resulted in the area being more attractive than before. Plans were made to rebuild the roads, and requisite funds were reserved for the work. More residents became active on new committees being formed.
By the end of 1996, 161 homes had been built or were under construction on 188 single family lots. In January 1997, the four owners of parcels at Carmel at Shalimar Pointe joined the Association, bringing our membership to 194 property owners plus the Country Club. Also in 1997, a home was constructed across from the club house and two residential lots were added to bring the total membership to the current 198 property owners.
The tennis club was purchased by a Shalimar Pointe resident in June 2008 and continues to offer a variety of tennis related programs to the public.
In November 2012, a group of approximately 100 concerned residents, friends, and Lake Lorraine neighbors, formed Preserve Shalimar Pointe LLC, and purchased the golf course and club house. Their objective was to preserve property values and provide our community a place to play golf.
